Therapeutic Ultrasound

• Ultrasound is a form of mechanical energy. A specific machine is used to creat the ultrasound wave which can affect the human body tissues and cause therapeutic effects. As the energy within the sound wave is passed to the tissue, it will cause oscillation of the particles of that tissue. The increase in the molecular vibration in the tissue will result in heat generation. In addition to thermal changes, the vibration of the tissues appears to have effects which are generally considered to be non thermal in nature. As the ultrasound wave passes through a tissue, the energy levels within the wave will diminish as energy is transferred to the tissue.
• The application of ultrasound to injured tissues will speed the rate of healing & enhance the quality of the repair. We also use it for treating chronic pain.
