About Dr.Tan Clinic

Dr.Tan Clinic is a clinic in Westlake area of Hanoi. We offer medical services in the fields of traditional Chinese medicine, physiotherapy and rehabilitation.

In terms of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), it is a collection of holistic health care philosophies and methods, which aim to improve and optimize your entire well-being. We use practices from traditional Chinese medicine to not only fight disease, but also prevent it. The practice of TCM is based on balance, harmony, and energy. According to TCM, everything in life has a little bit of its opposite, too, and balance is the key. For example, a drug might heal disease, but it’s dangerous if you take too much of it. When you balance the Yin and Yang inside your body, you feel healthy and well. If they’re out of whack, you feel sick. TCM aims to create harmony and a healthy flow of qi and the insufficiency of body substances, thus helps you to improve your health and fight disease. The methods of TCM that being used in Dr.Tan Clinic include herbs, acupuncture, acupressure, and cupping.

In the combination with TCM, we do physiotherapy and rehabilitation as parts of our complete health care system to help to restore, maintain, and make the most of a person’s mobility, function, and well-being, as well as to work on injury prevention or fitness. We use the modern equipment such as electro stimulator, ultrasound stimulator to optimize the efficacy of the treatment. On the other hand, the movement therapy as well as proper exercise is included to help people to deal with the body structural problems such as scoliosis.

Dr.Tan Clinic’s goal is to supply the best alternative medicine services for foreigners in Hanoi.

Common questions

What is Traditional Chinese Medicine?
  • Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is a collection of philosophies and health care methods which are thousands of years old. Its basic concept is that a vital force of life, called Qi, surges through the body and force the nourishing substance which is Blood to move around and nourish the body.  Any insufficiency or stagnation of Qi and Blood can cause disease and illness.

  • Ancient Chinese believed that humans are microcosms of the larger surrounding universe, and are interconnected with nature and subject to its forces. Balance between health and disease is a key concept. TCM treatment seeks to restore this balance through treatment specific to the individual.

  • It is believed that to regain balance, you must achieve the balance between the internal body organs and the external elements of earth, fire, water, wood, and metal.

  • Treatment to regain balance may involve: Acupuncture; Moxibustion (the burning of herbal leaves on or near the body); Cupping (the use of warmed glass jars to create suction on certain points of the body); Massage; Herbal remedies; Movement and concentration exercises (such as tai chi); Nutrition.

Who would need Traditional Chinese Medicine care?

TCM should not be used as a replacement for conventional or allopathic treatment, especially for serious conditions, but it may be beneficial when used as complementary therapy to support the treatment of chronic diseases such as high blood pressure or diabetes or obesity; and is especially effective to deal with the functional disorders of the body such as poor sleeping quality, poor appetite, indigestion, excessive urination at night, poor fertility, etc..; and it is a good choice to prevent illness as well as to improve your well-being.

How acupuncture works?
  • Acupuncture is a component of TCM commonly found in Western medicine and has received the most study of all the alternative therapies. In an acupuncture procedure, some sterilized steel needles will be inserted into your body at acupuncture points. Acupuncture points are believed to stimulate the central nervous system. This, in turn, releases chemicals into the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. These biochemical changes may stimulate the body’s natural healing abilities and promote physical and emotional well-being.

Is it safe if I take herbs usually?

It seems like these products should be harmless. After all, you use herbs all the time when you’re cooking. But some may not be safe, especially if you have certain medical conditions or take some medications. In traditional medicine, herbs are considered medicines, so they should be prescribed by a qualified doctor for your specific condition and in a certain time of use.
